Curved shower rod offers extra room without major remodeling

If you have a shower/bath, there is a good possibility that you wish it were a little bit wider so you wouldn't keep banging into the wall or shower curtain.

The innovative folks at Moen ( www.moen.com) have come up with a novel way to get the extra inches you need without a major remodel. All that is necessary is to replace your old shower rod with their new curved shower rod. When installed, the shower rod curves out to give you an extra 6 inches in width in the middle of the shower where you need it most. You can find the Moen Shower Rod Kits at many plumbing supply stores. Universal Plumbing, (248) 542-3888, www.universalplumbing.com, stocks it in chrome for around $40.

It is easy to do and can be attached to any drywall, stud or tile surface.

Installation

1. Mark where you want the shower rod.

2. Tape templates onto both walls. Be sure to use a level to make sure the templates are straight.

3. Drill holes into wall.

4. Insert wall anchors. Make sure they are flush with the wall. If necessary, you might have to lightly pound them in with a rubber mallet.

5. Remove shower rod from protective plastic cover and disassemble. Slide decorative covers and plastic rod sealer ring onto rod.

6. Adjust rod to fit length of shower.

7. Insert screws into first pivoting mounting post and screw into wall.

8. Make final adjustment of rod length and attach rod to other wall.

9. Slide connector ring into place and press decorative caps over wall anchors.

10. Attach shower curtain and enjoy. You earned it.
