Great gift ideas for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is next Sunday, so there is still time to get Dad some unique gifts that he will love. Here are some of my suggestions that will make your Dad’s home projects a little easier and make his relaxation around the home more fun:

If Dad loves to grill, there are two gift ideas that will surely make him happy. The Grillbot, grillbots.com, is designed to clean his outdoor grill’s grates instead of having to use a wire brush and elbow grease every time he gets ready to barbecue. The Grillbot features three electric motors and smart computer technology that regulates the speed and direction of the unit, and cleans the grates using a rotating brass brush.

A fun gift for that dad who loves to grill steaks is the Branding Iron Gift Set available from gifts.com. Crafted of stainless steel with a wood handle, the branding iron is heated on an open flame or charcoal grill before “branding” those beautiful steaks or other meats with either “DAD” or his initials.

To help Dad complete his outdoor “to do” list faster and easier, consider getting him either iRobot’s Looj 330 gutter cleaner or a Rino-Tuff special trimmer head for his weed whacker.

The iRobot Looj 330, store.irobot.com, uses robot technology with Lithium battery power to clean gutters by traveling inside the gutters and using its auger to break apart clogs of leaves and debris and toss it to the ground.

Changing the string on his weed whacker is probably one of the more frustrating things Dad has to do. But getting a Rino-Tuff head-trimmer replacement unit from Yard Gear (yardgear.com) can make that process much easier. The Rino-Tuff replacement heads fit most gas and some electric trimmers and features durable nylon trimmer blades that are easy to change with Rino-Tuff’s push button technology.

If Dad is a music buff and has a vintage stereo system with great speakers, you can help him play music from his mobile device right through that stereo with the Harman/Kardon BTA 10 external Bluetooth adapter, harmankardon.com. Using Harman/Kardon’s Truestream technology, Dad can just plug in this adapter to his stereo system, pair it with his Bluetooth enabled smartphone or tablet, and stream music through his favorite speakers.

For the Dad that likes to stream music out on the deck or patio, you can also get him Big Blue 200 Bluetooth and Wi-Fi speaker from Brookstone, brookstone.com. This cordless, rechargeable speaker is also water-resistant and connects wirelessly to a Wi-Fi network, or pairs via Bluetooth with Dad’s mobile device to let him stream his music outside while he is working around the yard or entertaining outdoors.

While I like to focus on gift ideas for the home, there is one gift you could give the dad who is a military history buff or lover of old airplanes that he will never forget. The Yankee Air Museum offers Air Adventures flights throughout the summer at Willow Run airport in Ypsilanti, yankeeairmuseum.org/fly, where dad can fly in a World War II era B-17 or B-25 Bomber or a C-47 military transport. Prices range from $195 for the C-47 flight, $400 for the B-25 and $450 for the B-17. While it is a little more expensive than your typical Father’s Day gift, it might be the perfect gift from the whole family and is sure to provide Dad an experience that is unforgettable.

Of course if your dad has a well-stocked toolbox and plenty of power equipment, you might want to give him an inexpensive gift that will help him with his projects around the house — the revised and expanded version of my home improvement book, “Fix it Fast and Easy” as an eBook. The eBook version of “Fix It Fast and Easy” can now be downloaded to his iPhone, iPad, Kindle, Mac and PC on Amazon.com, and through the Apple iTunes bookstore for just $4.99.
