Be careful when buying similar products for a flooring project

Dear Glenn: I recently created a project that looks amazing. First off, this is a kitchen floor. I took tile slate and standard oak flooring pieces. I made a 4-foot square with the slate and bordered it with the wood.

Kind of like a picture frame idea, but ran the wood diagonally across the whole floor. Here is the problem; I purchased at Home Depot a product called Super Glaze. I applied this product to the first half of the finished floor and let it cure. Then, I went to Lowe's and purchased what I thought was the same product. This never fully dried. Three to four days out, and it is still tacky, stringy to the touch. I contacted the company; they said I did something wrong. I followed all the directions, proper mixing and mixing time. What are my options? Can I reapply the better product and hope it will bond and then harden? Or do I need to rip it all up and start again?

Garren, via email

Dear Garren: Do not coat over the top of the sticky product. Use a semi-paste epoxy remover. Wash the area right after scraping the sticky product off, using the paint remover wash. Let dry. When squeaky clean, apply the Super Glaze.
