Be sure to monitor your combustable air flow in your home

Dear Glenn: I am experiencing black outlines around some of my beams in my cathedral ceiling in my great room. Also, starting with my first year moving in, I had trouble with very dark stains around my baseboards where it meets my carpet in all of the rooms. I had my gas fireplace and my furnace checked out last year and they were OK. I do have a gas dryer on the main floor and am not sure how clean that is running. I do not burn candles. If I do, it is only at Christmastime, and it is only one or two for an evening dinner. I don't want to repaint this big room if the problem is going to come back. I am a middle condo and my cold air return is pretty far from the outside wall, and I am wondering if that is what is contributing to perhaps having dirty air. Who do I call to see what is going on. Any help would be appreciated.

Marsha, via e-mail

Dear Marsha: Sounds like your house may be too tight. You need combustible air into the home. You may want to look into installing a Skuttle 216, (800) 848-9786, www.skuttle.com, or an Equaliz-Air, (734) 462-1033, www.equaliz-air.com, unit. Both will bring combustible air into the home.
