Eliminate ice on the bottom of your garage door in the winter with a simple replacement

Dear Glenn: Hope you can solve this little problem. My garage overhead door faces west in the winter and ice forms under the rubber cushion on the bottom of the door. The door opener has to strain to lift the door. Is there anything I can use on the bottom of the door to prevent the ice from forming?

Larry, via e-mail

Dear Larry: Your rubber door sweep sounds tired. Replace it, using an all-weather material like ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. Also, door adjustment will help. To ensure the best defense, install an insulated door. Call Jan Overhead Door, (313) 581-7300, www.jandoor.com, in Dearborn.
